Another ugly duckling restored. This property is in North London the owner contacted us to seek advice in the removal and cleaning of the building. As you can see from the pictures the state of the brick work once the cladding was removed meant that the cleaning of the brick work was impossible.
We wonder what the original Victorian builders would think if they could see what had happened to this fine building.
After careful research two different bricks were selected for the brick facing job. Once the bricks were cut down into 20mm slips the stone concrete cladding was removed (2 tonnes of it)
A special breather membrane was mechanically fixed and a vapour permeable render coat was added to give extra tensile strength to the system. Each brick was carefully applied with specialist bonding material. Once cladded the bricks were pointed in natural hydraulic lime just like the Victorians would have done all those years ago.
